    Today, we would like to take a moment to introduce Olds College, which offers an agriculture-related program, one of the five designated fields of study required for the recently updated PGWP eligibility criteria.

    “What are the fields of study eligible for PGWP?”

    According to the updated PGWP qualification criteria on October 4, starting from November 1, applicants for PGWP will be limited to the following five fields of study:

    ✔ Agriculture and agri-food
    ✔ Healthcare
    ✔ STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
    ✔ Trade (Construction, Electrical, and similar skills)
    ✔ Transport

    Since the scope of the five fields is broad, we recommend that you check the CIP list through this link to see if your major qualifies for PGWP.

    Among the five fields, let’s take a look at Olds College, which is famous for agriculture and agri-food.

    Introduction to Olds College

    Olds College is located about 1 hour away from Calgary, Alberta, and is about 20-25 minutes from downtown Calgary.

    Olds College is ranked #1 among agricultural colleges in Canada and owns a 4.4 million-square-foot smart farm. Every year, professors, researchers, and graduate students from McGill and Western universities collaborate with Olds College to conduct various research projects.

    Additionally, the employment rate is 95%, ranking second only to the University of Calgary in Alberta, and in terms of research rankings, Olds College was ranked 4th overall in Canada’s official college rankings for 2023.

    Introduction to the Department

    At Olds College, programs are divided into the following 11 major fields, with a total of 42 programs offered:
    – Agriculture
    – Agriculture Technology
    – Animal Health
    – Business
    – Equine
    – Fibre Arts
    – Horticulture
    – Hospitality, Tourism, Brewery, and Meat Processing
    – International
    – Land Environment
    – Trades Apprenticeship

    The programs highlighted in light green correspond to majors listed on the CIP list. In other words, starting from November 1, 2024, they will be eligible as designated majors for PGWP applications.

    In the case of the percentage listed next to each major, you can see that the proportion of Canadian students is higher than that of international students.
