Canada’s Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots Are Now Open – Here’s What You Need to Know

If you’re a caregiver dreaming of a better future in Canada, now is the time to take action. As of March 31, 2025, Canada has officially reopened its Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots, offering eligible foreign workers a direct pathway to permanent residency (PR).

This exciting development is especially relevant for child care providers and home support workers, including many Filipinos and other international caregivers with experience in this field.

What Are the Home Care Worker Pilots?

Canada’s immigration system offers two targeted streams for care workers:

  1. Home Child Care Provider Pilot
  2. Home Support Worker Pilot

Each stream allows foreign workers with recent experience in caregiving roles to apply for permanent residence — while also contributing to the growing demand for care workers across the country.

In 2025, each pilot will accept 2,750 applications, totaling 5,500 new applications. Out of these, 140 spots are reserved for out-of-status workers currently in Canada, allowing them to regularize their immigration status and stay in the country legally.

Who Can Apply?

Currently, the “Workers in Canada” stream is open. The stream for applicants outside Canada will be announced soon, so make sure to follow IRCC updates regularly.

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

To qualify, applicants must:

✅ Have at least 6 months of recent work experience in child care or home support (either in Canada or abroad)
✅ Possess a secondary school diploma (or its equivalent)
✅ Show language proficiency with a CLB 4 in English or French
✅ Obtain a valid, full-time job offer from a Canadian employer (private household or eligible organization)

How to Apply – Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Gather Your Documents Early
Before you apply, prepare your education credentials, language test results, resume, and reference letters. Missing documents could delay your application or cause rejection.
  2. Submit Online Through IRCC’s PR Portal
You must create or sign in to your IRCC account via the Permanent Residence Portal. Carefully select the right pilot and stream (e.g., “Worker in Canada – Home Child Care”).
  3. Fill Out All Required Forms
Complete and upload your application forms, proof of work experience, education, and job offer documentation.
  4. Apply Before the Cap Is Reached
Since this is a first-come, first-served process, apply as soon as possible before your stream reaches its cap.

Why This Program Matters – Especially for Filipino Caregivers

As someone with deep connections to the Filipino caregiving community, I know how life-changing this opportunity can be. Canada values the dedication, patience, and skill that Filipino caregivers bring to Canadian families. With this program, qualified applicants can finally secure permanent status, reunite with family, and build a long-term future in Canada.

Whether you’re already working in Canada or preparing to come from abroad, this pilot program is your chance to turn caregiving into a permanent career pathway.

Canada’s Home Care Worker Pilots represent not just a job opportunity—but a chance at a better life. If you or someone you know is a caregiver with the right qualifications, don’t wait. The window is open now, but it won’t last forever.
