    Hello! This is NohProblem.

In February, we shared the news that the medical examination would be waived until October 6th.

Today, we bring you news that the IME medical examination exemption has been extended.

What is the Immigration Medical Examination (IME)?

IME stands for Immigration Medical Examination. When applying for a Canadian student visa or working holiday visa, you are required to undergo a medical examination through a designated physician at a hospital appointed by the Canadian immigration authorities. The examination items vary slightly based on age:

✔️ Ages 0-4: Physical measurements, examination
✔️ Ages 5-10: Physical measurements, urine test, examination
✔️ Ages 11-14: Physical measurements, urine test, chest X-ray, examination
✔️ Age 15 and older: Physical measurements, blood test, urine test, chest X-ray, examination

Who is exempt from the Canadian IME?

This medical examination can cost over $200 at a time! Let’s take a look at who qualifies for an exemption:

✅ Those who have applied for or are newly applying for permanent residency or temporary residence
✅ Those currently residing in Canada
✅ Those who completed the medical examination within the last 5 years (the previous expiration period was 12 months)
✅ Those who do not pose a public health or safety risk

Individuals exempt from the medical examination must provide their Unique Medical Identifier obtained from their previous examination.

For those residing in Canada, if the IME results from your previous student visa or other visa application have not exceeded 5 years and you meet the conditions mentioned above, you should be aware that you qualify for the IME exemption.

We hope this information helps those preparing for visas requiring medical examination documents, such as the 2025 working holiday visa.

We will return with more useful information next time.

    Thank you!
