The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot, which allowed caregivers and their families to immigrate to Canada with the prospect of permanent residency, concluded on June 17, 2024. However, starting March 31, 2025, Canada is introducing new Home Care Worker Immigration pilots, offering fresh opportunities for caregivers.
Key Updates:
- Reduced Work Experience Requirement: Applicants now need only 6 months of eligible work experience, a reduction from the previous 12 months. This change accelerates the pathway to permanent residency for caregivers.
- Flexible Experience Recognition: The new pilots accept eligible work experience gained both inside and outside Canada. This experience must be acquired within the 36 months prior to submitting the permanent residence application or up to the date proof of work experience is provided.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the new Home Care Worker Immigration pilots, applicants must:
- Plan to live and work in Canada, outside Quebec: These pilots are intended for caregivers aiming to reside in provinces or territories other than Quebec.
- Meet Language Requirements: Achieve a minimum Level 4 in all four language skills (writing, reading, listening, and speaking) in English or French, as per the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) for French.
- Meet Education Requirements: Possess at least a Canadian high school diploma or an equivalent foreign credential, validated by an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
- Have Relevant Work Experience or Training: Depending on the specific pilot, applicants need 6 months of continuous, full-time, and relevant work experience in the past 3 years or have completed relevant training in the past 2 years.
- Secure a Valid Job Offer: Obtain a genuine job offer as a home child care provider (NOC 44100) or home support worker (NOC 44101).
Application Streams:
- Workers in Canada Stream: Opening on March 31, 2025, this stream is for applicants already residing in Canada with valid full-time work authorization in any non-seasonal occupation. Applicants can be temporarily outside Canada (e.g., on vacation) but must demonstrate that they normally reside in Canada
- Applicants Not Working in Canada Stream: This stream will open at a later date. Applicants must prove they have sufficient funds to settle in Canada.
Next Steps:
Prospective applicants should:
- Prepare Necessary Documentation: Gather language test results, educational credential assessments, proof of work experience or training, and a valid job offer.
- Stay Informed: Regularly check the official Government of Canada website for updates on the application process and opening dates for the Applicants Not Working in Canada stream.
