Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP): Temporary Public Policy for Work Permit Extensions https://canada.nohproblem.com/manitoba-provincial-nominee-program-mpnp-temporary-public-policy-for-work-permit-extensions/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=manitoba-provincial-nominee-program-mpnp-temporary-public-policy-for-work-permit-extensions https://canada.nohproblem.com/manitoba-provincial-nominee-program-mpnp-temporary-public-policy-for-work-permit-extensions/#respond Thu, 17 Apr 2025 19:26:59 +0000 https://canada.nohproblem.com/?p=19192 If you’re currently working in Manitoba and your work permit is set to expire, there’s good news for you. On April 15, 2025, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) announced a temporary public policy aimed at supporting eligible candidates who need a work permit extension. Starting from April 22, 2025, qualified individuals can apply for a Support Letter that will allow them to extend their work permit specific to Manitoba for two additional years.

This new policy is designed to support those whose work permits either expired in 2024 or 2025, or will expire within the next 45 days. For eligible candidates, the Manitoba-specific work permit extension will provide additional stability, allowing them to continue working and living in the province while working towards permanent residency.

Eligibility Criteria for the MPNP Support Letter

To qualify for the Support Letter and the associated work permit extension, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Hold a valid work permit that will expire in 2025.
  2. Held a work permit that was valid on May 7, 2024, but has since expired, and have applied for a new work permit under section 200 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
  3. Held a work permit that was valid on May 7, 2024, has expired, and have submitted an application for an extension of temporary resident status under section 181.
  4. Held a work permit valid on May 7, 2024, that has expired and have submitted an application for restoration of temporary resident status under section 182.
  5. Were authorized to work on May 7, 2024, under paragraph 186(u) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, and have a pending or approved work permit extension.
  6. Were authorized to work on May 7, 2024, under paragraph 186(u), with a pending or approved work permit extension application, and have applied for an extension of temporary resident status.

In addition to the above, applicants must:

  • Have a valid MPNP Expression of Interest (EOI) profile submitted by January 15, 2025, and maintain an active profile when applying for the Support Letter.
  • Have been residing in Manitoba prior to January 15, 2025, and continuously remained in the province since.
  • Be currently employed in Manitoba with an employer willing to provide a letter of employment.
  • Intend to settle in Manitoba as permanent residents in the future.

How to Apply for the MPNP Support Letter

Eligible candidates can apply for the Support Letter starting April 22, 2025, by completing an online submission form available on the MPNP website. The application will require several supporting documents, including:

  • A letter of employment from your current employer in Manitoba.
  • A copy of your current work permit or proof of authorization to work in Canada.
  • A copy of your Expression of Interest profile for MPNP.

Once your application is submitted and reviewed, the MPNP will issue a Support Letter that will assist in securing your work permit extension for two more years.

Why This Matters: Manitoba’s Commitment to Skilled Workers

This temporary public policy is a significant step by the MPNP in supporting skilled workers who have contributed to Manitoba’s economy. It allows eligible foreign workers to continue their stay in the province while navigating the pathways to permanent residency. The work permit extension provides additional time to establish a more secure future in Manitoba, making it an invaluable opportunity for those who are already integrated into the workforce and community.
