What the Rule Says

If you apply to extend or change the conditions of your work permit before it expires, you maintain your temporary resident status and can continue working while waiting for IRCC’s decision.

However, if you also apply for a visitor record and it is issued before your new work permit is approved, your authorization to work ends immediately.

• You will still have valid temporary resident status as a visitor.
• But you will no longer be legally allowed to work in Canada.
• You must wait until your new work permit is approved to resume working.
